CASE SUMMARY
On 05/03/12 around 1000 am Swatara Township Police and Fire (49, 41, 40) along with Lifeteam were dispatched to the Super 8 Hotel off of Eisenhower Boulevard for a barricaded person involving hazardous materials. When police and fire arrived we found a 2 story hotel with all guests evacuated except a suicidal person on the second floor of the hotel. There was distinct “spoiled egg” odor in the hotel and just outside the hotel.

It is with great sadness that I report 9 year old Blake
Appleton has lost his battle with cancer, and has joined the other angels in
heaven. Blake was a fighter all the way to the end. A man among men. Never did
he give in or give up. His mother conveyed to me the importance of the trip to

Ten years ago today,
Captains Rob Morrison and Derek Martin of the St. Louis Fire Department
received fatal injures while searching for a reported missing firefighter. The four alarm fire at Gravois Refrigeration
Company which distributed goods to local grocers, shortly after 9:00 PM. Approximately twenty minutes into the fire

Corporal Brian Riddle of the United States Marines and Progress Fire Company Fireman was welcomed home today. Brian was first injured by a sniper in Afghanistan and recently injured by a mortar attack in Helmand Province on April 22. He sustained shrapnel wounds from head to toe and was flown to Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland to undergo several procedures to remove the shrapnel.

WELCOME HOME!
Today at approximately 1230hrs, Rescue Co. 804 was "officially" ready for
service as Alarm Box 80 was finally cleared, welcoming home Lt Austin Peters.
While Peters was waiting for his discharge from the Burn Unit, arrangements were
under way so we could give him a warm welcome home. Companies were called and
rallied together in the Weis Shopping Center, where Units staged awaiting his

Injured Firefighter Update:
While operating on the Rescue Co. Fireman Peters sustained 2nd degree burns to his wrist, calf and foot area. With initial reports of people trapped and while lines were being stretched, Peters initiated a search ahead of the hose line in high heat zero visibility conditions. Once again Firefighters from all over the world converged on
New York City for the 250th annual St. Patrick’s day parade. The
morning started with having breakfast with firefighters from as far away as
Germany and Ireland as well as others. The city showed these fireman
hospitality that is second to none. I am glad to say that once again I was in

Moose was admitted to the Reading Hospital ICU on Saturday Night February the 11th. After an MRI was completed, a cancerous tumor was found on the left brain. The site of the tumor is currently effecting his motor skills. Surgery has been scheduled for Tuesday February 14th……..

As I sit here on the day of Maker's cremation, I'm reflecting on many memories of the man, both good and bad. Many crossed paths with Maker and I don't believe that anyone can say they weren't affected by the experience.
Maker wasn't the kind of man you met and forgot. Whether you loved him or hated him, you sure as hell aren't going to forget him. He didn't like fence sitters and he brought out the best and worst in people without much effort. He was a rule breaker yet insisted ... [ more ]
